How to Be As Prepared As Possible for the Open Road When You've Just Passed Your Test
The moment that you pass your driving test can be a particularly invigorating experience. Now you have the freedom to take yourself to places without having to rely on anyone else to transport you. It's true that many people get carried away with their new-found mobility, but this is frequently tinged with a sense of anticipation. Be Focused
First and foremost, you must remember to focus at all times when you are on the road. There are all kinds of hazards outside, such as other vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians, but it may be that the hazards inside the car are the most distracting. Never use a handheld mobile phone when you are driving and it is illegal in most places to do this anyway. Many people feel as if it is their right to occupy a particular piece of road at a certain time and this can often lead to confrontations or aggression when others "get in the way." Try your best to avoid this type of mentality and understand how unpredictable road behaviour can be. While talking about this frame of mind, remember to only drive when you are fresh and alert and always pull over and take a rest if you're on a long journey.
Be Defensive
Unpredictability also means danger. You have to allow a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front at all times because you never know what might happen and how others may behave. In other words, drive defensively so that you have time to react when anything random takes place.
Try to Know Where You're Going
Finally, try not to rely on navigational systems at all times. They're certainly a fantastic and valuable gadget in modern times, but you should have at least a general understanding of where you are going without them. Allow extra time so you don't feel as if you are rushed and this will lead to less tension if you need to adjust your route.
